Remodeling Still Makes Sense in This Economy

With the decline in the economy, there have reports recently (one was actually a MSN.com headline article) stating that remodeling one’s home is a consumer extravagance. This is not only inaccurate but irresponsible. Remodeling is often necessary for overall upkeep and maintenance of one’s home; putting off home improvements could result in more costly repairs and improvements in the future. An older roof cannot and should not be ignored. It will not offer the needed protection, will not be energy-efficient and detracts from the aesthetics of one’s home. If it is left to deteriorate, it could leak, resulting in further damage to a home’s interior. Leaky windows can let water seep into walls and cause black mold to grow; deteriorating chimneys can not only fall apart and cause damage but could result in leaking into the home.

The studies and reports in the actual remodeling industry are factual and encouraging. The Research Institute for Cooking & Kitchen Intelligence (RICKI), a Charlotte-based organization of industry professionals in the kitchen remodeling industry, conducts a “Remodelers 360” survey that examines consumers’ kitchen design preferences, kitchen remodeling experiences, and how they use their kitchens. The results reveal what common sense would tell us: more Americans are eating at home as a result of the downturn in the economy, thus the desire to remodel a kitchen is still motivating consumers to remodel. The value homeowners get for a kitchen remodel and the aesthetic and practical benefits to the home still make it a highly worthwhile investment.

According to Remodeling Magazine Cost vs. Value Report 2008-2009, remodeling is still an excellent investment that not only improves your quality of life and the cost of which can be recouped if or when you sell your home. The Cost vs. Value Report gives approximate costs of particular remodeling projects and provides potential resale amounts and percentage of return on investment. The costs of remodeling obviously can vary from place to place across the U.S., based on regional fluctuations in material costs and contractors’ labor costs and overhead.

Bathroom Remodel: Update an existing 5×7-foot bathroom that would include replacing all fixtures, installing a ceramic tile surround; installing a new plumbing in the tub, shower and sink; installing a standard white toilet; solid-surface vanity counter with integral sink; installing a medicine cabinet, light fixture and ceramic tile floor.

Approximate Project Cost:,899

Resale value: ,857

Cost Recouped: 74.6%

Deck Addition (wood): Add a 16×20-foot deck using pressure-treated joists supported by 4×4 posts anchored to concrete piers. Install pressure-treated deck boards in a simple linear pattern; include a built-in bench and planter of the same decking material and stairs

( assuming three steps to grade). Provide a complete railing system using pressure-treated wood posts, railings, and balusters.

Approximate Project Cost: ,601

Resale Value: ,676

Cost Recouped: 81.8%

Major Kitchen Remodel: Update an outmoded 200-square-foot kitchen with a layout of approximately 30 linear feet of new semi-custom wood cabinets, installing laminate countertops and a standard double-tub stainless-steel sink with standard single-lever faucet. Install an energy-efficient wall oven, cooktop, ventilation system, built-in microwave, dishwasher, garbage disposal, and custom lighting. Add new resilient flooring and finish with painted walls, trim, and ceiling.

Approximate Project Cost: ,611

Resale value: ,030

Cost Recouped: 76.0%

Minor Kitchen Remodel: In a functional but dated 200-square-foot kitchen with approximately 30 linear feet of cabinetry and countertops, leave cabinet boxes in place but replace fronts with new raised-panel wood doors and drawers, including new hardware; replace wall oven and cooktop with new energy-efficient models. Replace laminate countertops and install mid-priced sink and faucet. Repaint trim, add wall covering, and remove and replace resilient flooring.

Approximate Project Cost: ,246

Resale Value: ,881

Cost Recouped: 79.5%

There are also many remodeling projects that increase your home’s energy-efficiency. Updating older bathroom plumbing fixtures with newer, more water-conserving fixtures is an affordable way to improve a home’s efficiency, lower water costs, and improve the appearance of the bathroom as well. Other minor things that can be done include installing new doors, installing Energy Star- rated windows, sealing cracks and crevices with spray foam, and if possible laying thicker insulation in the attic.

Consumer energy tax incentives and credits are being offered through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and are providing consumers tax incentives to have energy-efficiency improvements done to their existing homes and new construction. The plan includes federal tax credits and includes:

Tax credits are available at 30% of the cost, up to ,500, in 2009 & 2010 (for existing homes only) for:

Windows and Doors

Insulation

Roofs (Metal and Asphalt)

HVAC

Water Heaters (non-solar)

Biomass Stoves

Tax credits are available at 30% of the cost, with no upper limit through 2016 (for existing homes & new construction) for:

Geothermal Heat Pumps

Solar Panels

Solar Water Heaters

Small Wind Energy Systems

Fuel Cells

The Joint Center for Housing Studies is Harvard University’s center for information and research on housing in the United States. The Joint Center for Housing Studies examines emerging housing and community development policies and concerns. Industry leaders and public officials also use the center’s research to learn about trends and issues in the housing field.

According to The Joint Center for Housing Studies 2009 Growth Markets for Remodeling report, remodeling has helped to increase the energy efficiency of existing homes over the past two decades, especially older homes built during or before the 1930s. Most homeowners are currently interested in projects that will improve their homes’ energy efficiency and address other environmental concerns (utilizing “green“ materials for reducing carbon footprint and health concerns for example). In 2007, homeowners spent over billion of their improvement to energy-related projects, up from less than billion (in inflation-adjusted terms) a decade earlier. Homeowners are motivated by environmental concerns, and have a growing interest in products and projects that meet the green goals of quality and durability, environmental performance, and safety (such as lessening the chances or consequences of certain disasters on the home).

As credit conditions start to ease up, owners will find it easier to finance their home improvement projects. As home prices edge back up, owners will again realize the wealth-building benefits of investing in their homes. And as sales pick up, recent buyers will want to make improvements as the economy continues to improve. When the uncertainty of the economy and job-security lessens, people will feel less fear about spending money on remodeling projects.

Remodeling can be done at any time of year- it is not necessary to wait until springtime to tackle home improvements when most contractors and home improvement specialists are backlogged with work. Certain projects are definitely best-suited to fair weather: roofs, exterior painting, decks, and siding. But there are many projects that can be completed at any time: interior painting, kitchen or bathroom remodel, basement reclaiming or remodeling, removing wall(s) to open up interior spaces, flooring, and installing doors and windows, refinishing wood floors or putting in new trim work. A great project is redefining a room by changing a bedroom or poorly-utilized room into a bathroom, office, media room or workout room/ relaxation retreat, or a space that fits your lifestyle.

As more and more homeowners are remaining in their homes, they look to remodeling to help create their dream home from the home they already own. Your home is a major investment- maintain or improve its value, efficiency and appearance to improve your quality of life!

A New Paradigm Shift With Vision : The Economy, Business, Our Resources And Stakeholders

In review of President Ernest B Koroma`s tenure his goal, mission and vision has been dynamic without reservations or any prejudices advancing the change concept which has been essentially embraced by the greater majority as a collective initiative for a common destiny is mainstream. He continues to make tremendous improvements within two years in office walking the talk so far so good, with results better uplifting the country with a new sign of hope from the lowest ebb and doldrums it was before his election to office.

He may have suffered setbacks by force majeure, but greatly due to the selfishness of partisan politics, deceptions by so called friends parading his corridors for personal gains and emoluments, foes and opponents both inside the country and outside in the Diasporas making situation difficult for his leadership, as it has become the order of our body politics in rivalry, which he continues to contain and judge prudently with temperance directing him and justice being his guide. Notwithstanding such adversity he continues to exploit his vision in meeting his obligations by statements of pledges made before his presidency. In this light, we must all be committed as sierra Leoneans for the general welfare and well being of our country to embrace his agendas for change as the way forward and better option with collaborative efforts for success in general. Likewise we must also revisit other good ideas and initiatives for deliberations with stake holders and partners since no one person has a monopoly to knowledge.   By such gesture in bridging the gap with tolerance, we can guide our nation out of the self inflicted perpetual poverty, miseries, complacency, mediocrity with evil intents. A nation not united cannot stand the test of present global challenges, which demands unified efforts and support the only way to progress and development.

Sierra Leone is not a poor country, but it is the people who are poor in body, mind and spirit because past leaders and those entrusted to make the difference to change for their welfare were poor in ideas, vision, in generosity and lacks compassion. When one chooses to go into politics, it must be with the intentions of serving the people sincerely not the people becoming servants of the politicians, as justifications for inimical acts and self aggrandisements.

Recently it has been announced that oil commonly known as black gold has been found in Sierra Leone. Yes it is right to celebrate and thinking positively to what it can do for the nation and its suffering people. It is too premature to start building hopes without concrete and solid foundation in clear cut policies and agendas directing and favouring the country and its people solidly embedded. Oil has become a curse as well as a blessing to many producing nations globally and we cannot be an exception to this phenomenon.  It is a commodity whose irresistible appetite globally can salvage the economy of Sierra Leone with the credence it deserves in transparency and proper management and disbursement of its proceeds in equitable manner in a nutshell can transform the economy. But sadly this does not happen over night and in even five years from now. It takes rigorous planning very conscientiously to get it right. Ghana has also found Oil over five years ago in commercial quantity and is still working out modalities between its government, the explorers’ and stake holders.  However this is another opportunity for the country to get the rude awakening of the fact that we ought to go back and make amends and corrections to our many mistakes in other historic events visited unto the country and its people which have left many negatives and few positives effects on the economic system.  Never the less with this development in its germinating form, government should regain control by all means of Oil Refinery, restructuring it to start processing crude Oil once again as an initial starter, while in conjunction creating and floating an Oil company with greater shares owned invite strategic partnerships, create and float share holdings possibilities for citizens, local investors both in the country and in the Diaspora who are interested to invest their money. This should be the starting point for everyone including the people of the country to be comfortable in collaborative participation not selected few as was in the past to many economic projects that may lead to chaos in the future.

With hindsight for instance, what have we done with our gold, diamonds, rutile, iron ore, titanium, coffee and cacao, palm oil, ginger and the fishing industries’ to mention just a few? It has brought us the worst nightmare and misery any nation could pray for not to happen. So what is making us abhorring the myopic thinking that it will be better and different this time without addressing and properly auditing the past predicaments of similar nature in our assets misappropriation? There are many more questions than answers to the equation of wealth and minerals of Sierra Leone that needed to be forensically audited critically for posterity, so that transparency and proper fiscal management and even distribution across board should be the guiding principles and benchmarks. Where did we go wrong in the first place, and why and how we did end up the way we are without significant progress to hold on to from the past? The impact on our infrastructures, projects and developments, security and sovereign integrity is nothing good to write home about. If we fail to do so now, a generation will take the bull by the horn in time to come holding our conscience in memory responsible, when we would have gone with the wind with nothing positive left in the annals of history to be the legacy for the children of tomorrow.

All the stock exchanges in the world are pre-occupied with Africa’s gold, diamonds, uranium, platinum, copper and iron ores. Our capital flows out in streams to irrigate the whole system of Western economy.  Africa provides more than 60 per cent of the world’s gold. A great deal of the uranium for nuclear power, of copper for electronics, of titanium for supersonic projectiles, of iron and steel for heavy industries, of other minerals and raw materials for lighter industries – the basic economic might of the foreign Powers – comes from our continent. In Sierra Leone we are blessed with many of these minerals resources than even others who are making steady progress like Rwanda for example who do not have a single mineral potential but human resource capacity and have been through a war far devastating than ours making rapid progress in their socio economic development and especially business capacity outsourcing in manpower.

We must start looking at all options but focused on some of our industries which can impact directly on the economy by reviving them rather than doing away with for pittance. This would not only increase the country’s foreign exchange earnings but also offer job opportunities and openings to the large army of unemployed youths both educated and many other who are not. By this strategy we can build vocational training formulas to develop skilled labour force. If the Government because of financial constraints cannot get these factories running again, it should target and invite private investors to form partnerships rather than going for outright sales to infrastructure which at the end would have to be developed all over again. If past governments had recognized the legacy and purpose for building assets and infrastructures as a viable investment for the future, things would have been better managed than they are today.  This is one of the many ways the Youths of the country can be empowered with a clear foundation convincingly to join government in building a joint venture future as stake holders and partners relying on the fortunes of the country and the wise channelling or its assets rather than been boisterous, rebellious and recalcitrant being used as political tools seasonally when it comes to electioneering. The youth must be groomed as stakeholders not pawns in a political chess game and as foot soldiers.  In this light Sierra Leone will be focusing on being the prime supplier/distributer of manufactured goods to other African countries. Our objective should be aspiring to reduce import for consumption and looking at local production for export and domestic consumptions.

The time is now ripe to implement these plans with the assistance of finding strategic partners who will teach us to fish and process it within our shores rather than always going for the easy option of a bowl in the hand for alms from donors and aid providers which takes away our integrity and capacity to be self sufficient. China and India is ever ready to cooperate with Africa towards development as partners and the time is ripe with the right government in place to engage in barter trading effectively with strategic planning in place; bartering what you have for what you need.  This has been the first methodology for the practice of trade and commerce since time immemorial.  Many countries developed through this pattern from historic generations to present day. We must now embrace BARTER TRADING as part of our formula for the future we want to see in Sierra Leone. Even run down industries in the UK and other European countries are now rehabilitated by China and Indian and other businessmen through bartering business strategies. Government should create the right environment and provide the conducive policy frame work meeting 21st century solutions for mutually beneficial co-operation with interested partnerships as stake holders in joint venture projects were all parties emerges winners. It is imperative on the need for Sierra Leone to be master of her own destiny, rather than depending on foreign Aid investment and build its own local industries, oil companies, agro industries to meet the needs of her people. Today it is the focus of every other country to earnest its potential through its resources rather than just given it away for virtually pittance.

Dr Siaka Probyn Stevens was the President many hated for political reasons and vilified for partisan purposes was the architect of the great venture of BUMBUNA HYDRO PROJECT which is almost near completion that will turn the wheels of fortune for the country dramatically into a positive spin for energy and security beneficial to industries and other infrastructures thereby improving human resource capacity building. Even the Oil we are now talking about started with positive results made during his era in the early eighties nearly bringing Sierra Leone and Liberia into a border conflict for the possession of the area of SULAIMA which is the demarcation zone we now see on the exploration Oil map that would have been ceded if stance were not taken then by Stevens.  Another typical example is what is now happening in the YENGA dispute between Sierra Leone and Guinea with the potential of triggering a border conflict because of mineral deposits the bigger story not dilated yet upon. There is no smoke without a fire.  Let us try to be guided prudently by the events of our past history to avoid misinformation and disservice to the people unproductive elements within are waiting to capitalise on for political gains which may have the tendency to take the country back to its darkest days. Nigeria one of the five largest producers of oil in the world has not seen any positive benefits translated into the pockets of the citizenry but rather few greedy politicians and their business allies. It is now an albatross hanging on the neck of many governments affecting peace process and national security.  History has shown that many wars are fought for material gains involving territorial and mineral assets influence and motivated by selfish and personal aggrandisement. We must start taking control of our own destiny as a sovereign country with integrity. The whole essence of this philosophy is for us to re-affirming seeing ourselves as equals and partners to any other race under the sun and doing our utmost best to chart a course suitable in building our nation on our own terms and not being afraid to control our destiny. This is the change present OBAMA envisage for the African people in his many speeches especially the one made on his historic visit to Ghana. It is not a crime to think and dream big for Sierra Leone, it is the only way forward better things can be attracted by the unifying forces of positivity. We must transform ourselves from a humiliated, exploited, disgraced and confused personality we made of ourselves as a nation to a RESPECTFUL GLOBAL CITIZEN capable of developing our potentials by enhancing and transforming our resources to human gains and capitals for national benefits.

A lost priority of Sierra Leone’s development is about the fact that the reality of issues has been woefully neglected. President Koroma’s vision and the people’s collective energies in ideologies are what the country needs and surely development will happen, “a paradigm shift”. It is worthwhile to note that the ideologies laid down in the 1960s that is perceived as outdated believe it or not is the “model of development” by which we still continue to rely on and adopted. Nothing actually new has happened that much since 1961. The late Siaka Stevens was a leader of vibrant national passion for development and self-reliance who embarked upon very costly nationwide infrastructure improvement scheme and in the same vein, gave credence to home-grown solutions towards insuring food security by strategic improvements in the agriculture sector including business ventures that saw many Sierra Leoneans entrepreneurs emerging taking their rightful places in the many businesses. In the late 70s most of the rampaging nature of multinational companies in pulling their resources and investments from Sierra Leone was to deliberately take us backward knowingly preparing the ground ripe for chaos because of our quest to take control of institutions and replicating their businesses.  Dependency on aid, debt and increasing poverty became the order of the day in the absence of greater economic and political integration. While we should have been steadfast and persevered as a nation, we became divided politically, tribally and socially which started to erode our democratic process, structures and security.  Many times we have made bad and unpatriotic statements on past leaders their effigy destroyed or burnt to ashes; mocked and scorned by the very people they use to govern. Not a very healthy signal for our unity and reflections into the future. But most of their memories have survived the test of times like many in other African countries. In the new African renaissance in general and Sierra Leone in particular, we must now place great emphasis on the presentation of history. Our history needs to be rewritten as the history of our society, not as the story of Diasporas adventures. The Sierra Leonean society must be treated as enjoying its own integrity; its history must be a mirror of its society, and our Diasporas contacts and affiliation must find its place in this history only as an individual African experience, even if as a crucial one. That is to say, the Diasporas influence and connection needs to be assessed and judged from the point of view of the principles animating our society and from the point of view of the harmony and progress of our people’s trials, tribulations and developments up to date.

When history is presented in this way, it can become not only an account of how our very elite brothers and sisters who took over the leadership in steering our destiny became more Europeanized in thinking and obligations than the very values, traditions and cultures were over sighted for reasons other than selfish tendencies and personal ego to the country’s detriment losing sight and flavours’ of their pedigree; it can then become a map of the growing tragedy and failures to be understood leading to final triumph of our society over adversity, calamities and misfortunes.

In this way, our country’s history and heritage can come to guide and direct our actions in politics, trade and business, social responsibilities and commitments with a common sense of obligations enhancing our democratic process. Finally we must begin to appreciate and recognise our past leaders and those dim to be heroes and learn to give them their due within our socio-cultural climate and what they stood for cannot be so easily wished away through partisan, tribal or social differences by a group of people.
“Nothing can stand between our highest ideal except the lack of understanding of our inner most power from GOD and the refusal to work with it collectively as a nation and as one people with a common destiny. The truth is: All African Men or Women are NOT THE SAME. And yes, there are some specific situations or problems that some men will respond to the same way as other men (withdraw or leave) knowing that all men aren’t the same, and knowing that men can respond similarly to common problems that come up. The question is what are you doing in your relationships that keeps recreating the same frustrating situations with men – and bringing out the very worst kind of responses from them?

Service Sector Takesover Ethiopian Agrarian Economy

The fast growing service sector of Ethiopia for the first time takes over the agriculture dependent economy of the East African nation, reported www.newbusinessethiopia.com from Addis Ababa.

Now, the service sector contributes 45.1 percent to Ethiopia’s Gross Domestic Production (GDP) for the fiscal year ended June 2009 (from July 2008 to June 2009). Meanwhile, agriculture sector, which was dominant in the economy, followed the service sector by contributing 43.2 percent to GDP.

According to GDP data released by the Ethiopian Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MoFED) this week, during this period, the service sector grew by 14 percent while agriculture was limited to 9.9 percent. To the contrary, six years ago agriculture’s annual growth rate was 16.9 percent while the service sector was growing at 6.3 percent.

Industry sector of the nation, which has been contributing between 12.9 to 14 percent to GDP over the last eight years, has now contributed 13 percent to the national GDP during for fiscal year ended.

Eight years ago, Agriculture was leading the service sector by more than 10 percent until the gap between the two narrowed to one percent last year.

Ethiopia’s GDP for the year ended stood at 336.1 billion birr (around 25 billion USD) at current market price from it was around 77 billion birr eight years ago, according to MoFED’s data.

Commenting on the news a reader named EMY A, said: “Although the said growth rate of the service sector is good by itself, service sector should not proceed the industrial sector at this early stage of Ethiopian development. It is a sign of distorted economy.”

“This growth is too fast to happen even though the now developed countries service sector exceed the agricultural sector.this structural transformation must occur after the country assure its food security and the service sector have to have two way(back ward and forward) linkage with both the agricultural and service sector,” commented another reader.

How To Survive In A Bad Economy

HOW TO SURVIVE IN A BAD ECONOMY

How do you survive in a bad economy? Become the entrepreneur you were born to be! I realize that not everyone will become the entrepreneur they were born to be, but I truly believe the key to surviving in this economy is to utilize your gifts and talents, to obtain revenue streams in your own business. Multiple cash flow streams are critical in a bad economy. Allow me to share some of my experiences. Before I became an entrepreneur, I utilized my college degree in computer science to obtain several great career opportunities with major corporations, like US Air, Marriott, MCI, UNISYS (Sperry /Univac), EDS Electronic Data Systems, Perot Systems, Standard Federal Bank, Freddie Mac, Rail Inc. etc.  I made a good six figure income in computers. I worked with computers for more than 20 years, designing and developing software, utilizing PCs and Mainframes.

I was laid off 3 times, mostly based on yearly budgets. That led me to do some research. I found that most companies do a budget every year from October through January meaning that one year you or I just might not be in the budget. Also, I found that after working a job for forty (40) years, only about 4 out of every 100 people can retire without depending on family, friends or the government. Meaning, that most people retire broke or below their means after forty (40) years of service. So they retire, only to go back to doing something part- time, which turns into another fulltime job until age 75. What kind of life is that?

I realized after doing my research that working a job would just pay the bills and was not the answer to financial freedom. Also, that I had no control over budget cuts. Along, with a path that was most traveled, but not successful by the age of 65. At that point, it was time to take control of my destiny. So, I walked out on a six-figure income, never to look back again.

Yes, I left Corporate America to pursue what the Lord had called and purposed me to do. I stepped out on faith and the rest is history. I always had a burning desire to run my own company. At this point I’m not trying to impress you, but to inspire you. Once again, not to impress you but to impress upon you, that you can do it too, or a lot more. Most of you are already there and much further.

When I became an entrepreneur I made a six-figure income 2 times, first with computer contracts, and second by opening a learning institute. My third entrepreneurial venture was investing and teaching real estate, where I created a seven (7) figure net worth. Ladies and gentlemen, I should have cashed out before the big bomb. But I wanted to live my life  like it was golden, so I continued to invest and reinvest to take that seven (7) figure to eight (8) figures. Not trying to be greedy, but to obtain financial resources to send my kids to college, create financial freedom, and to be able to bless people who are in need.

I don’t think Oprah Winfrey or Donald Trump would have cashed out either!

I invested in all kinds of real estate, single- family homes, condos, water front property, golf course community properties, etc.

I lived in almost a 7,000 square-foot gated home with a total of five cars in the garage and drive way, within a golf course country club community. With the real estate bomb it felt like I lost almost everything overnight! But, I never stop moving and shaking although my cash flow, began to get low and slow.

I continued to motivate and educate. Just with a much smaller budget. My faith in Jesus Christ pulled me through that test, along with my good friend Willie Jolley’s, book; a setback is a setup for a comeback and my good friend Les Brown’s book; it’s not over until I win.

I always knew if you held the recipe and had the right ingredients you could get it all back and a lot more. Most of the time, double for your trouble.  You learn so much from your first experience that the next time around you’re so much more: wiser, skillful, and knowledgeable.

In life, you must be able to take a punch! Even if you get knock down, you must be able to get back up off the canvas of life and continue to throw punches. Sooner or later you’re going to hit your target and WIN!

Well ladies and gentlemen, I’m on may way back. I’ve just written my third book, launched my brand new TV SHOW, and I’m working on a ,000.000 project!

Let me share with you a few strategies, techniques, and tips on how to survive, thrive, and keep the dream alive in these economic times. Then get ready to change your life in the next 90 days!

4. Cut Your Expenses ASAP,put your pride to the side; it’s not the time to worry about what other people will  say or think about you based on your new situation and lack of revenue. Give back that stolen vehicle if you have not paid your car note in the last three months or been given an extension. You might have to downsize your home. Stop eating out every day or night. Stop spoiling the kids and show tough love; quit buying them everything.

5. Focus on Multiple Streams  of Income! When one stream dries up, there should be another stream ready to open up!  Some times  God closes one door, because he’s ready to open up a double door! A door that will close no more!

6. Finding Your Purpose And Passion, it’s time to cash in on your passion! It’s time to step into your greatness. If you don’t use it, and if you abuse it, you just might lose it!

7. Start Your Own Business

A.    Choose your product or service. It should line up with your purpose and passion.
B.    Develop a business name
C.    Develop a business plan
D.   Get your business registered
E.    Get a license if needed
F.    Get your EIN #
G.   Find financing
H.   Get a bank account
I.     Develop a web-site
J.    Get started today!

8, It’s Not Going To Be Easy, friends are going to talk about you. Your family will ask why you left that good government job. People are going to think  you’re crazy. Sometimes you’re going to think  you’re crazy!

9. You Can Never Quit, Donald Trump’s father told him a story about his friend, who loved soda. He had developed a new soda business. First he called it Second Up, then Third Up, then Fourth Up, then he stopped at Fifth Up, he came back for Six Up, and then he quit. Then, somebody came out the next year with Seven Up, and it BLEW UP! One man said failure is the price tag for success! You can never quit! You can never throw in the towel!

10. You Must Be Able To Comeback , you must be able to comeback bigger and better stronger than ever. The key is, can you endure to stormy weather?

TYLER PERRY (COMEBACK),

OPRAH WINFREY (COMEBACK),

T.D. JAKES (COMEBACK),

LES BROWN (COMEBACK),

MICHAEL JORDAN (COMEBACK),

BOB JOHNSON (COMEBACK),

NELSON MANDELA (COMEBACK)

11. You Must Invest In Yourself, Les Brown, (Speaker, Trainer & Author) “People invest more in entertainment than empowerment”

Robert Kiyosaki, (Author Rich Dad, Poor Dad)  “There are three types of education:  Academic, Professional & Financial”  (The most important education is,  FINANCIAL!) Invest in financial education!

12. You Must Have A Team, it takes a team to fulfill the dream! Teamwork makes the dream work! A great man wrote, individuals win games, teams win championships! It’s a lonely road to the top without a team. Don’t leave home without one.

                                                     Job Finding Tips

A. When going to a job fair, always get there at least one hour early, while the company is setting up, and establish a relationship with the staff before everyone gets there. Give them your resume and get their business card, office location, web-site and title.  Follow up within 48 hours.

B. Create an email address with the same name as your job  title.

C.  Find five aggressive head-hunters (job seekers!) ASAP!

D. Query the Yellow Pages or Map Quest on line, for the job industry you are looking for and write down the names and numbers of 100 companies. Call the operator and find out the manager’s name and the  department, then mail your resume directly to them.

Use a red or purple envelope only with a bow and a thank you card along with your resume inside. This will get your resume noticed. If this does not work go to the company and make the delivery yourself. But, this time you must use a large yellow envelope. I have a package for  John Dow, (Your Resume!) or take it to the mail room. Do not dress up, play the part! It’s time to be humble.

To Start Somewhere

I meet so many people who want to achieve something in the life but that has been postponed for “some day”. This “some day” comes in their lives for only 2-3% of the people. Most of the time when we are not able to make our dreams come true, then we have to adjust/compromise to whatever is available

The Digital Economy Bill

Edit Article |

Posted: Mar 25, 2010 |

The Digital Economy Bill surfaced in 2009 during the Queen’s Speech and has been the subject of much controversy since. It has mainly sparked rows with privacy groups over its proposals to increase spying on web users’ activities in order to clamp down on any illegal actions.

One of the main offenses is copyright infringement, a form of internet abuse that targets people who illegally download music or films for free – with the punishment varying significantly between the range of offence. First time offenders may get fined or warned but, if the offence is repeated persistently, illegal web surfers could receive a complete cut off of their internet privileges.

The bill also proposes that the current Copyright, Designs and Patents Act of 1988 be amended to cover dealings with illicit recordings. At the moment, the wording of the Act is so that it mentions only ‘dealings with illicit articles’, which covers various forms of text but technically not recordings. The changes would mean that those who become involved with seeding and downloading such files on the web could be charged up to £50,000.

Internet Service Providers (ISPs) would be obliged to monitor their customers’ activity on the web and to report suspicious net usage to the appropriate authority. If the ISP fails to comply with this demand, they could face a fine of £250,000. The bill also requests that all web content be regulated and proposes a rating system like the PEGI video game rating system be adopted to give web sites a stricter age restriction.

Another area where the government would be able to step in and intervene is the domain name registration space. This space is currently overseen by Nominet, an independent body comprised largely of ISPs whose registration model was so popular that it became the mould for other similar ventures worldwide.

The Digital Economy Bill has been met with a highly mixed reception. Critics have claimed that it is offensive in its expectation that the changes will boost Britain’s digital economy and many consumer rights and privacy groups have slated its proposals to boost ISP monitoring of their customers.

Support hasn’t been tremendous, with the UK’s copyright society for artists DACS showing appreciation for the protection it would award its members and others showing support for the benefits that would be awarded to the community broadcasting sector.

ISPs appear to be the main contender to the bill as arguments such as the bill not directly addressing the problem and the course of action being inappropriate against offenders. Plus, with the countless users, hosting companies to work with and various other areas that ISPs would need to watch over, it is hardly a simple task to expect them to undertake to monitor all customer activity.

General Knowledge Pt. XVII

A vegivore is a person who craves or has a special fondness for vegetables. This need not be because the person has an aversion to eating meat but solely due to an intense craving for vegetables. To a vegivore, meat products may only seem like an accompaniment to add flavour to the dish. He/she will find the vegetable dish more satiating than the meat dish.

Economy Makes Opportunity

Edit Article |

Posted: Mar 28, 2010 |Comments: 0
|

In this broken economy there are people all across the country and even around the world are feeling the disruption in United States economy. Opinionated analysts also don’t see a sunny ending neither, polls show more and more people only think it will get worse by the facade of low prices and on-sale deals.

Who knew spending money you didn’t actually have would end up badly?

With the roar of the internet becoming even louder during this financial fiasco. Americans are looking more and more for viable opportunities to supplement their current income.

Many businesses online claim, “It’s the best opportunity since slice bread.” while others claim, “You won’t make money faster anywhere else!” The truth is, you should run away from both of these false claims as fast as you possibly can.

Businesses that are made with the average woman and man in mind are one’s structured for the long term. With an ever-changing economy and always evolving industry, networking marketing companies go hot and fresh one second and next year are outdated and useless.

You’ll want to make sure the business you get involved with is made for the long haul. This not only ensures your own success but the success of your team!

That brings another main point. Duplication is key! Many businesses are not set up for the average person but what we call our industry vets, “heavy hitters”. These people can have success in any opportunity regardless if the package is ,300 just to get started or a .99 one time investment.

The point is, many people are doomed before they even start because the requirements of receiving cash are unlikely. Many businesses even have time restrictions and limits you on receiving cash unless you’ve qualified for payment.

The best internet businesses, especially in an fluctuating economy, are built for the average person to succeed. This is ideal for long term growth and gives you and your team more of a chance to succeed.

Lastly,  you must be able to withstand the industry and its ups and downs, the frustrating moments where you want to throw your pc across the room, or times when quitting seem all to appealing. These are the instances when you must decide now “Your Big Reason Why”. This will help you stay motivated and give you endurance to do what you know you must instead of taking the easy way out and quitting.

In the end, only you have the success of your future right in your view waiting for you to grasp it. Only you can place the consistent action to make it work and create the lifestyle you deserve!

How to Recycle Plastic Bags

Plastic bags and wraps are typically made from type-2 high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and type-4 low-density polyethylene (LDPE) plastic. A general rule of thumb when recycling plastic bags is to make sure the plastic bags are empty and clean. Do not include used plastic food wrap, bags with food residue, or material that has been painted or glued. Doing so will contaminate the recycled material making the entire load unusable. Unusable plastics are usually thrown away and land filled.
