Alex Jones – July 2 2010 1 & Max Keiser

March 25th, 2011 2 comments

Sugar Plum Cake Shoppe Dot com The dollar plunged today following a United Nations report which called for the greenback to be replaced as the global reserve currency by the International Monetary Fund’s special drawing rights (SDRs). The dollar’s trend of moving inversely to the stock market has seemingly been snapped, with the Dow Jones falling over 100 points at one stage today. However, as soon as markets began to claw back losses, the greenback failed to follow suit, indicating that whichever way markets move, the dollar is in big trouble. The UN report called for “abandoning the US dollar as the main global reserve currency, saying it has been unable to safeguard value,” according to Reuters. “A new global reserve system could be created, one that no longer relies on the United States dollar as the single major reserve currency,” stated the report, adding that this new system should not be based on a basket of currencies, but on IMF-controlled SDR’s. A dvertisement Following globalist moves to restore confidence in the single currency euro in the aftermath of the Bilderberg and G20 meetings, the concern has shifted from sovereign debt issues of countries like Greece and Spain, to the worsening state of the US economy and the risk of a double-dip recession.

Stocks and Shares Trading in 2010

Edit Article |

I like to trade stocks and shares but what do when unemployment in both the US and UK keep increasing? Interestingly the major stock markets are also increasing.

Unfortunately, equity markets are completely detached from the ‘real’ economy. So as unemployment continues to rise, and is expected to continue rising throughout 2010, we could see the Dow Jones and FTSE 100 continue to rally.

Yes the stock markets are supposedly ‘forward thinking’ and investing in the future but the current picture is unclear.

Looking at the UK, inflation looks like it will remain around its target of 2%. Of course controlling inflation is easier said than done. No one knows what affect the quantitative easing will have on the economy in 6 months time.

The focus will be on the outlook for growth and indications of when the US, European and UK stimulus packages will end. Growth is returning but, with Governments short of funds, tax rises are expected in 2010. The little growth we have could quickly end.

All-in-all the markets look like they will remain volatile for quite some time. It is not all bad news though. There are a few ways of taking advantage of the market volatility.

One option is spread betting, with a spread betting account you can go long or short of the markets. This means an investor can trade a market in the direction they feel it will move. You are not limited to only speculating on markets to go up. If you think the FTSE 100 or Dow Jones will go down you can bet on them to fall.

Another advantage in the current volatile climate is that you purely are speculating on the future price of a market; you are not actually buying or selling anything. This lets you complete trades quickly.

Of course, all forms of financial investment have the potential for incurring losses. For example, trading in stock, property, investment funds and pensions can lead to you losing money. With spread bets your losses can exceed your initial investment.

Having said that spread bets are tax free, there is no capital gains tax, no stamp duty and no income tax on spread betting*.

And unlike traditional stocks and shares trading, there are no commissions or broker’s fees.

If you are considering spread betting then you should also consider where you might trade. A number of spread betting firms offer the usual benefits of letting you trade thousands of UK, US and European markets as well as letting you trade outside normal market hours. Some firms, such as FinancialSpreads.com, will let you trade markets 24 hours a day.

A final comment though, spread bets carry a high level of risk to your capital. You should only speculate with funds you can afford to lose. Like the adverts say, before trading, please ensure that spread betting matches your investment requirements. Familiarise yourself with the risks involved. Seek independent advice where necessary.

* Based on current UK tax law, if you pay tax in another jurisdiction then tax law may vary.

Spread Betting for Trading the Volatility

I see that many spread betting traders are sitting on their hands out of the latest stock market turmoil. Which probably makes the markets even more volatile as the day traders take over and push the futures up and down with very little real volume. We keep getting two or three share up days followed by another two or three days of falling prices.

As with trading with CFDs, financial spread betting provides the investor the chance to trade in vast amounts of stocks as well as the open stock market indexes. Ten Best Stock Picks In 2010 Part I I

Edit Article |

Following up with the first part of this story, below are the remaining five stock picks that prominent businessmen and businesswomen from around the world told the NY Times. As mentioned previously, these are considered long-term investments, ten years or more in most cases.

If there is one consensus between all of the financial professionals interviewed, when it comes to seeking long-term stocks, steady growth by well-established companies is certainly favored.

6. Flextronics Internations (NYSE: FLEX) – Roger McNamee, from Integral Capital Partners, is a venture capitalist that believes in buy-and-hold investments. McNamee said his company has owned Microsoft, Intel, and Oracle stock for the past decade. According to McNamee, the most valuable thing an investor can do is “getting the fundamentals right.”

7. Henry Schein Inc. (NYSE: HSIC) – Suggested by Bill Nasgovitz, from Heartland Value Fund, Henry Schein is a stock that can show a high return, especially when considering it is selling at a very appealing price at the moment.

8. Medtronic (NYSE: MDT) – This pick was provided by George A. Mairs III, of Mairs & Power Growth Fund. According to Mairs, he is looking for companies with durable franchises, companies that have been around for at least ten years, and that have a leading market share.

9. JDS Uniphase (NYSE: JDSU) – Liz Ann Sonders, managing director and member of investment policy with Campbell, Cowperthwait, stated it is easier for her to suggest technology stocks, because she believes this sector will be the big winner over the next decade.

10. Cisco Systems (NYSE: CSCO) – This is Robert E. Turner’s, of Turner Investment Partners, pick. The firm has 40 percent, of the billion it manages, invested in technology stocks. Turner said that over the next ten years, Cisco may not have the highest appreciation, but it is the stock he feels most comfortable with, in regards to risk/reward.

Detroit MI Automakers Enjoyed a Great 2010; Other Companies Gaining Market Share

Detroit MI auto industry followers waited to see what the final sales numbers would turn out to be for the month of December and for the whole year. Most automakers saw an increase from sales numbers from the year before while others like Toyota are still trying to come back from a negative change in sales.

The biggest news for previous months’ sales data is the possibility of it changing from the Big Three to the Many Seven, according to some analysts. Hyundai Motor Co., who sold a record-making 500,000 vehicles in the U.S., which it has never done before, was very close to gaining 5 percent of the market share this year, but stopped shy at 3.91 percent. According to the Wall Street Journal, if Hyundai hits the 5 percent mark as the Korean automaker is predicted to, the U.S. market will have a dramatic shift from the time when the Detroit Three dominated the market and were the deciding factors of the industry’s movement.

The seven would be:  General Motors, Ford, Toyota Motor Corp., Honda Motor Co., Chrysler, Nissan Motor Co. and Hyundai.

“I think it’s fair to say we are entering a new era,” said Jim Press, a former Toyota and Chrysler executive now working as a consultant to several vehicle makers, in a Wall Street Journal article. “You have a completely different situation when you have six or seven companies that are all established, with a significant customer base. It’s not like the old days when it was the Big Three and then all these little guys.”

Detroit MI automaker General Motors is still on top of the pack with 19.58 percent of the market followed by Ford with 16.61 percent of the market and Toyota in third place with 15.50 percent of the market. Honda beat out Chrysler with 11.32 percent to Chrysler’s 8.80 percent market share.

GM’s sales rose 8.5 percent from November with an overall 7.2 percent increase for the total year of 2010. It was an overall good year for GM as its IPO was extremely successful, earning it the title of largest IPO in history. This Detroit MI Big Three member is working its way back to its original glory.

[Rewind: Detroit MI Automaker General Motors Stock Up 15 Percent Since IPO]

The other two members of the Big Three did well as Ford increased 6.8 percent for December with total sales for the year almost 20 percent, and Chrysler saw a 16.4 percent climb in sales last month to complete a 16.5 percent increase this year.

Toyota ended another month with negative earnings in terms of the percentage of sales change from this time last year. For December there was a 5.5 percent fall in sales for Toyota as 2010 was a struggling year for this major automaker with so many recalls.

[Recall: Detroit MI Toyota Drivers Warned of Toyota Recall with 740,000 U.S. Vehicles Affected]

Hopefully the automotive industry is on its way to a full or at least a better recovery this year. The number project growth continuing positively, so only time will tell.

MI Auto Times covers all Michigan automotive news all the time, featuring newly released vehicle recall information, relevant Michigan automaker news, vehicle ratings and comparisons, and everything else auto-related Michigan and world readers need to know.

Michigan Chrysler Dealers Hear Chrysler Posts Net Loss for 2010, but 2011 Outlook Brighter

DETROIT, M.I. – Michigan Chrysler dealers learned that Chrysler Group LLC officially reported a net loss for the 2010 year. Chrysler was one of the major automakers that went bankrupt in 2009 and sought aid from the government to continue business. For this reason, Chrysler was expecting lower profits for the year. In the end, the projected numbers were higher than expected, but there was still a loss for the year.

“What Chrysler delivered last year, on both the product and financial fronts, surpassed many expectations,” Sergio Marchionne, Chrysler CEO, said in a statement issued by the company.

The first projections included a break-even for the year; but the final net loss for 2010 was 2 million while the operating profit was 3 million, which is a higher number than the adjusted figure of 0 million that Marchionne had projected.

Although Chrysler’s net revenue was .9 billion for 2010, Chrysler believes that what made it so difficult to hit its goal of .5 billion was the .3 billion that was charged in interest from the federal government for the 2009 bailout.

Michigan Chrysler dealers have been a part of the announcements as Chrysler unveiled 16 new/upgraded vehicles that were added to its lineup last year.

“All of these vehicles bear testimony to Chrysler’s rebirth.  As Chrysler Group’s brand displays at the Detroit auto show confirmed, the company has lived up to its promise to launch 16 all-new or significantly refreshed vehicles in the past 12 months,” said Marchionne.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is taking the lead as Chrysler is aiming for an IPO sometime this year as its competitor General Motors did in 2010. Chrysler hopes the IPO will be as successful for its company as it was for General Motors.

[Rewind: Detroit MI Automaker General Motors Stock Up 15 Percent Since IPO]

Michigan Chrysler dealers were happy to see Chrysler’s market share grow from 8.8 percent to 9.2 percent. Chrysler is projecting a much better year for 2011 with expected net revenues of billion, which will exceed the original projections of .5.
