Ford Numbers Beat Wall Street Expectations

Ford has surprised Wall Street after reporting a .6 billion profit in the second-quarter of the year, earning shareholders 61 cents per share, which beats the forecast 40 cents. Ford’s American sales climbed 28 per cent since the beginning of the year, almost doubling that of its competitors. However, Ford has forecast a decline in sales to go hand-in-hand with the predicted weak economy as well as the rising cost of aluminium, along with its seasonal plant closures.

Ford President and Chief Executive Officer Alan Mulally, said in a conference call with analysts and media, “Overall, our performance this year gives us great confidence going forward.” Ford is convinced that the company is making more money due to the global auto-structure where vehicles from around the world share parts. Even though sales in western Europe were down, sales were up significantly in other parts of the world such as Brazil, India, the United States and China.

Mulally also notes, “The global business environment remains challenging, but we expect global growth to continue.” U.S. sales remain low due to economic uncertainty, which is why Ford has lowered its total forecast sales for the year by half a million cars and trucks. They are predicting sales of 11.5 to 12 million for the year. However, shares have remained in good standing, getting a recent boost of 41 cents, up to .50 during the early morning of July 23, from fast-paced sales of their F-150 pickup truck and the Ford Fusion Sedan.

Ford has closed the second quarter owning 17.2 per cent of the U.S. market, which is an increase from 16.9 per cent they were at during the end of the first quarter. The second quarter also saw them pay of billion in debt and earn .6 billion, increasing shares by 61 cents each. Ford continues to work hard to pay down its debt.

Some automakers are struggling to make a comeback and understand that the slow recovery of the economy plays a large factor in their success, however, as a consumer, it can be a difficult decision whether to buy new or fix the used vehicle you currently drive. If you car or truck is in need of repairs and it is costing a little more than you counted on, perhaps a car repair loan can help. When traditional banks are not an option, private lenders can be. Many cater specifically to clients who have bad credit and even no credit, and offer many types of loans, including car repair loans.

“why Do Ford, Gm and Dcx Alone Still Speak for the Industry?” – Wall Street Journal

“Why do Ford, GM and DCX alone speak for the industry?” That was the query posed by Wall Street Journal as reported by the AIADA newsletter. Said statement was extracted as the paper explores on lack of connectivity regarding Detroit’s dilemmas to that of the entire United States auto industry.

Wall Street Journal said, “GM, Ford, Chrysler and their enablers in the new Congress [Michigan Democrats] would have you believe otherwise, but outside of Michigan the U.S. remains a great place to produce vehicles.” It added, “Consumers have more choices in what to drive and better quality than ever. And prices are competitive. Government intervention in a market this healthy can only increase the chances that it won’t stay that way.”

The obvious fact is that Detroit automakers are still dominating the automotive arena even though the international car manufacturers are increasing its market shares and continuously extends their operations in the US.

According to automotive statistics, about 43 percent of all passenger cars and light trucks sold in the US account for international vehicle manufacturers. Furthermore, approximately 60 percent of the entire sales of cars and light trucks in the US by said manufacturers are built in the US.

Wall Street Journal also reported that a recent study conducted by Cato Institute’s Daniel Griswold and Daniel Ikenson found out that each of the top 10 selling cars and trucks in the first 6 months of this year is produced at US facilities.

“Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Chevy Impala (GM), Ford Taurus, Nissan Altima, Ford Explorer, Chrysler Town & Country, and other models that round off the most popular 20, regardless of the location of company headquarters, are produced in U.S. plants by American workers who contribute to the local, state, and national economies through their employment, expenditures, and taxes,” the authors of the newsletter further noted.

Toyota is famous for its consistency approach and quality Toyota body parts. Ford and GM are also known for their determination and steadfast strength of character. Toyota, which is said to be struggling to dethrone GM will find it difficult to pass through its shield. Moreover, Ford is still holding on to its reign in the truck segment of the auto industry. The auto battle is still sizzling as ever.

American Made Cars

When making the decision to purchase a vehicle some of the factors you might consider are price, make and model and maybe even fuel efficiency. But where the car is made could also be a big decision when buying a car. As an American you may want to buy an “American” made car to help support the US economy. American made cars are any car that is assembled in the United States. And there are more cars made in the US then you may realize. It’s not just the Big Three anymore.

After he graduated from the University of Kansas, he was told by a professor at the University to try to get a job at Boeing. The professor then said recently left Boeing. He was then set at Boeing and after several years Ford Motor Company came as a new CEO. In connection with it is the former CEO of Ford, he also talked about her company committed to protecting the environment. He spoke of several alternative fuels that are the target, the amount of damage the vehicle do the reducing emissions into the environment. He has also started and dissected his thoughts on the problems faced by the automotive industry in connection with the use of alternative fuels.

For example, he cited the use of bio-ethanol, the use of ethanol as a substitute for gasoline, there is a lot of raw materials, the country with its required fuel supply.

That is why Ford, with Mulally at the helm, develops technologies that reduce the dependence of the auto industry on petroleum products. Several Ford models with Ford fenders and other Ford auto parts are already equipped with a hybrid version on the amount of gasoline that they offered to reduce consumption.

Although there already are more environmentally friendly vehicles in the market, Mulally thinks that it is not enough. “The auto industry only accounts for 15 percent of carbon dioxide emissions, so that the whole country needs cooperation,” says Ford’s CEO.

The Mighty Ford: Alan Mulally, CEO of Ford Motor Company has Saved the Automotive Giant and has Exemplified the Qualities of a True Leader

Alan Mulally is the current CEO of Ford Motor Company. Now, while many may perceive the United States auto industry as miserably failing, given the government’s bailout and subsequent economic failure, Alan’s visions at Ford have helped stabilize and build credibility and capital with the company.

After previously being passed over for an open CEO position with Boeing, where he was a top executive, Mulally came upon the Ford CEO position. Former CEO, “William Clay Ford Jr., great-grandson of the founder of the Ford Motor Company, brought in Mr. Mulally in a tacit acknowledgment that he needed a new approach in his efforts to turn around the struggling automaker.” Transitioning from the aeronautical industry to the auto industry proved to be seamless for Mulally, a born leader.

Building on the basic five aspects of a learning leader, Mulally immediately utilized the failing economic times to begin with more experience. This was critical. Rather than blame everyone around him, he took charge of a sinking ship and guided it to shore, where repairs could be made so that it could once sail the financial seas, once again. Metaphors aside, Mulally clearly and immediately began selling off foreign assets to build a better product at home. Additionally, Alan went out on a limb. By removing high-end vehicles such as Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford’s portfolio and institutionalizing the hybrid and Sync systems, Mulally began building the prototypical car for a new era.

Finally, it seems Mulally himself could have been chanting, “Those who say it can’t be done should interfere with those doing it.” By focusing on a robust national market and competing with the foreign economies, Ford was able to pick itself up from financial ruin and become profitable once more. “Ford lost a total of .3 billion in 2006 and 2007. It surprised Wall Street by earning 0 million in the first quarter 2008, an astonishing improvement given the slump in the United States market that has ravaged sales of its most lucrative vehicles.’ Alan Mulally is a typical example of a learning leader. He took his colleagues for the ride of their lives…in cars built by Mulally’s Ford. By focusing on Mulally’s aspects of leadership, I, too, can embody the spirit of a born learning-leader.
