Emerging Markets Specialist Exotix on the Long Term Values of Emerging Markets, Looking to Develop Involvement in the Iraqi Stock Market
Edit Article |

Benedicte Gravrand, Opalesque London: Amir Zada, associate director at Exotix, an investment broker specialising in emerging markets and frontier markets with expertise on illiquid, distressed, undervalued debt, spoke to Opalesque about some recent issues related to emerging markets and especially Africa.
Emerging markets, and of late, frontier markets, have been the way out of economies suffering from subprime-related troubles. This month (July) alone saw London-based firm Fincere Ltd. launching a global emerging markets hedge fund, HSBC’s fund arm announcing plans for a frontier market fund, Calstrs looking to allocate to frontier markets and news of sovereign wealth funds turning to emerging markets. Although a recent Fitch report says there has been a sharp acceleration in inflation in several EM economies, “posing a major challenge to relatively young monetary and inflation targeting regimes”, nevertheless, activity indicators for most emerging (and developing) market economies remain strong. Fitch forecasts still impressive growth of around 6% this year, albeit down from more than 7% in 2007” (Coverage.)
The Credit Suisse / Tremont Emerging Markets Hedge Index was up 2.14% in May and -1.99% YTD. The Barclay Emerging Markets Hedge Fund Index did not do so well as it returned -3.58% (est.) in June and -8.86% (est.) YTD. And the Eurekahedge Emerging Markets Hedge Fund Index returned -2.78% (est.) in June and -5.30% YTD.
Local currency funds are favourite
“Investors are flocking to emerging market debt, brushing past securities issued in hard currency to buy sovereign bonds in Mexican pesos, Brazilian reals or Turkish lira,” reported the FT. According to figures from Standard Asset Management, local currency assets accounted for most of the inflows, attracting about 2m, compared with m into blended funds. “If you look at the way hard currencies have been performing of late… Comparing to 2000, the values of local currencies is so much more,” Mr. Zada said. “So for the near future at least, local currencies are very beneficial.”
IPOs: more to come from emerging and frontier markets
It was reported last month that the London Stock Exchange (LSE) was seeing an increasing amount from emerging market companies raising IPO capital. “The smaller companies tend to list on the Alternative Investments Market (AIM) ,” Mr. Zada said. “The larger economies’ companies (from BRIC economies) would very likely do an IPO on the LSE purely because of capital restraints. But you do have smaller economies’ companies that are doing extremely well. Nigeria for example, in which GDP is growing at 5% p.a., has a lot of companies that are going for IPOs in alternative markets.”
Equities in Africa: long term value can be outstanding
EM equities have gained 12% since the end of January and so have shown obvious profitability. Although some believe the near-term risk/reward trade-off for EM equities has deteriorated ( Source).
“Exotix’s focus on equities is purely on sub-Saharan Africa at this particular moment. Africa as a whole, and in particular places like Nigeria, is really in the early stages of growth. So even though of lot of these companies are listed locally or externally and the trading potentially expenses valuation; despite that, it is still at an early stage of growth so the long term value involved in getting hold of these stocks is still predominantly out there. There is still so much value left in those companies in the long run because of the life cycle of the stock and the countries that they are involved in.”

Are You Still Looking For A Job? Wall Street Recruiter Reveals 5 Job Hunting Secrets

1. The Name of Your Resume:
When you apply for jobs, you attach your “resume” to the e-mail submission. My question: what have you named your attached resume? Is it John Doe Resume? Or J Doe Resume? Or is it Draft Resume?(does that mean you are still working on your resume? Or 2007 Resume (it’s 2009 – has it been two years since you updated your resume?) So – watch out! Tip: Give your resume a professional name – just your name is perfect! (ie: Jane Doe Resume). HR, Recruiters and Hiring Managers look at this.
2. E-mail Address
Is your e-mail address professional? If it’s [email protected] or [email protected] then this is perfect. But what about “[email protected]” or “[email protected]”. These are unacceptable e-mail addresses, and once again, employers and hiring managers will notice this.
Tip: Create a professional e-mail address for your job search.
3. Apply to old job postings.
Just because an ad is 30 days old, doesn’t mean it’s been filled! Positions may take from 2 weeks to even 3 months to fill. So, when a job is 30 days old, or even older, forward your resume. There is a very good chance that you will be one of the very few to have applied that day (compared to the 100′s of resumes that are submitted on the first few days of a job posting). Also, don’t forget that firms tend to have the “same types” of position openings….so even if it’s 30 days old, perhaps the firm is thinking of opening a new position that is similar, and then “voila” – your resume appears. And don’t forget about local and niche sites (craigs list / jobsonwallstreet.com / etc). These may be a goldmine and many overlook these.
Tip: Apply to old job postings – it could very well land you an interview and a job!
4. Objective – Do Not Write this on your Resume!
So many job seekers write an objective on their resume, many of whom even state the position they desire: “Seeking an Analyst role: Seeking an Accountant role”, etc. When you do this, you are basically telling the employer, “this is what I want”. So, if the employer doesn’t have that job you are targeting, they are most likely not going to cross reference you for other roles they may have – because, you told them exactly what you want! Let the employer decide where you’ll be the best fit – and let them cross reference you for other positions. For Entry Level Job Seekers (in college / just graduated) just write something very generic: To pursue a position with in the financial industry; To pursue a career within the Marketing Industry – generic and wide open! Tip: Do not write an Objective on your resume OR make it very generic.
5. Job Boards – Resume Database Portion
It is time consuming to post your profiles on the job boards, but you MUST. And most importantly, keep refreshing your profile so it’s current (show’s today’s date – not a year ago…). Many employers and recruiters do not want to reveal their job posting information. So they look for you on the databases. No matter what level you are at (from entry level to C-Level) – posting your resume on these resume databases is a MUST. As a tip, keep your e-mail address and contact info confidential on your job board database profiles. And if there is an option to upload your word document into the profile, don’t’ forget to also keep your name and contact info confidential from the word attachment as well! Many forget to do this! Tip: Spend a day and upload your resumes to as many job boards as possible.

Why Investors Looking To Buy Online Stocks, Pre-IPO Shares, Private Equity, & Hedge Funds May See A High Yield Investment Opportuinty In Hollywood
Edit Article |

Share
A lot of investors who are actively seeking to invest in shares of high yield investment opportunities, undervalued small cap stocks, offshore funds and hedge funds, or even pre-IPO private equity investment opportunities follow a crowd mentality of deal sourcing that doesn’t always net them the return or value their financial investment was allocated for.
And in most instances, even well capitalized affluent investors, private equity groups, hedge funds, venture capitalists, family offices, sovereign wealth funds, pensions, & endowments can’t possible be in an inner VIP network of ground floor investments that are only accessible to a few. So they are forced to park their internal equity into pre-ipo companies, small cap stocks, or portfolio managers hoping for a different result which doesn’t always materialize.
A better option is not to follow the crowd mentality and think outside the box in allocating to overall investment portfolios that are not always traditional in scope. With a specific risk strategy and multiple exits of of profits not directly related to economic conditions, investing in film may just offer that kind of opportunity for both smaller affluent investors as well as hedge funds, private equity groups, family offices, financial and wealth advisers, fund of funds, and others.
Historically investment in film was either structured without any risk minimization or the junior equity was crushed by the repayment of mezzanine & senior debt in large studio film slates. Investors thought that just by having their investment allocated with too many other tranches or based on fantasy mote carlo simulation models, there would a higher propensity for success. Unfortunately the superior returns in film finance and film investing were only successful withing film funds or film production and distribution companies that had a grasp of structured film finance, the commercial viability of a story, as well as international distribution.
While films such as “Paranormal Activity”, “Hurt Locker” and even “Avatar” were primarily financed with private equity, the upside in revenues for any private investment in Hollywood comes down to numerous factors that keep evolving every week at the box office.
There are plenty of affluent investors, wealthy families, hedge funds or private equity groups that come into the film business and leave just as quick. Mainly because the partnerships weren’t based on precise risk minimization strategies. There are not too many investment right now aside from film that can offer a guaranteed rate of return before profits, especially if hedged not on a one hit wonder, but spread among 10,20, 50 films where there is a also a control of theatrical distribution.
A a lot of wealth advisers, portfolio managers, financial planners, and accredited high net worth affluent investors and family offices are open to be educated about film as an asset class. A lot of former real estate developers, oil & gas speculators, hedge fund managers, and successful Silicon Valley investors seem to understand the model.
Investors are starting to have a reality check that they can go online, have a recommendation from their financial adviser or research the next hot investment opportunities in internet, technology, biotech, oil & gas, or even alternative energy and see that there is a lot of capital chasing deals with only a handful of investors that ultimately have an exclusive windows into wither private investment opportunities or a handful of fund managers than can really have a consistent ROI.
So now investors need to think outside their box and re-educate themselves on other alternative investments, especially media & entertainment, which seems to be immune to economic factors as well as movies still being the number one export of the United States. Plus there is really no longer an absolute need for movie stars to headline indie films as the films themselves seem to be star, especially with niche social media and marketing of films where the upside in revenues from theatrical, DVD, Video On Demand, Cable, mobile, and Internet VOD only increases the potential revenue streams.

Finding high interest CD rates is First–Not Final–Step
When looking for investment opportunities, many new to the arena believe that finding high interest CD rates is the only step. Unfortunately, comparing those highest rates is an excellent and highly recommended action, but how do you decide when the Return on Investment (ROI) -in this case, the interest you’re paid – is worth the deposit?

(AP) — The stock market pulled back Tuesday from its big rally after disappointing earnings and economic reports raised investors’ concerns about the strength of the recovery. The market’s major indexes fell modestly in afternoon trading. The Dow Jones industrial average was down about 31 points, retreating from a 208-point gain Monday that came on brighter economic numbers. Investors have found it hard to reconcile the mixed reports of the past few months, and are quick to sell on any news that points to a weaker economy.
On Tuesday, they reacted to earnings and revenue at consumer products maker Procter & Gamble Co. and Dow Chemical Co. that fell short of forecasts. The market has been focusing on revenue figures because they indicate whether consumer spending is improving enough to keep the recovery going.
The day’s economic reports added to the market’s sour mood. The Commerce Department said consumer spending and income were unchanged in June, another sign of a slower economy. The country’s savings rate rose, which means consumers would rather hold on to their money or pay down debt than spend.
The department also said factory orders dropped more than predicted in June, falling 1.2 percent. And a separate report from the National Association of Realtors said pending home sales fell in June.
The combination of disappointing earnings and weak economic readings reminded investors that the economy is still uncertain. Traders are also uneasy ahead of the Labor Department’s July employment report due out Friday. Consumers are not expected to significantly increase their spending until they feel more secure about their jobs.
Trading volume remained very light as many investors stayed out of the market. Dan Cook, a Chicago-based senior market analyst with the brokerage firm IG Markets, said they’re waiting to see the employment report.
“These severely choppy markets are scaring individual investors,” he said. “There’s no way we can get them back in the game without getting the employment numbers up.”
In late trading, the Dow Jones industrial average fell 31.18, or 0.3 percent, to 10,643.20. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index fell 4.05, or 0.4 percent, to 1,121.81, while the Nasdaq composite index fell 8.48, or 0.4 percent, to 2,286.88.
Rising stocks slightly outpaced those that fell on the New York Stock Exchange where volume came to 585 million shares. Volume remains light, which can intensify the market’s price swings.
Investors sought the safety of Treasury bonds, which pushed interest rates lower. Reports the Federal Reserve could start buying bonds again also added to their strength. The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note, which moves opposite its price, fell to 2.91 percent from 2.97 percent late Monday.
Tuesday’s pullback in stocks was also to be expected after such a big gain on Monday, which came on renewed optimism about the economy. Trading has been erratic since the spring amid the conflicting signals about the recovery, and many traders are quick to cash in any profits.
Jack Stoltzfus, senior market strategist with Ticonderoga Securities, said the market is likely to vacillate for a while with investors hesitant to buy heavily amid ongoing concerns about the economy, not just in the U.S. but in other countries as well.
“It’s a market that goes from worry to celebration pretty quickly,” he said. “It is prone to surprises as well as prone to disappointments.”
Procter & Gamble, the maker of Tide and Pampers, fell .33, or 3.7 percent, to .73. Dow Chemical dropped .57 or 9.1 percent, to .76. Pfizer rose 83 cents, or 5.3 percent, to .31.
The National Association of Realtors said its index of pending home sales fell to its lowest level since it began keeping records in 2001. The index dropped 2.6 percent to a reading of 75.7. Economists had predicted that the index that measures the number of people who signed contracts to purchase homes would rise to 78.1.
A housing recovery is expected to be slow now that tax incentives for buyers have expired. And many would-be buyers are worried about their jobs.
The Commerce Department said personal income and spending were both unchanged in June after rising 0.3 percent and 0.1 percent respectively in May. The readings were also short of forecasts of economists polled by Thomson Reuters.
The department also said factory orders fell 1.2 percent in June, the second consecutive monthly drop and more than double the amount economists expected. The results come a day after a broader manufacturing survey showed expansion in the sector in July.
Overseas, Britain’s FTSE 100 fell less than 0.1 percent, Germany’s DAX index rose 0.3 percent, and France’s CAC-40 fell 0.1 percent. Japan’s Nikkei stock average rose 1.3 percent.

Looking for some Free Money
By: Free Money
About the Author
(ArticlesBase SC #1235579)
Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – Looking for some Free Money
Government Grants are funds amassed by the Government for their citizens.
They can be used for multiple causes like housing ,businesses, personal needs, renovation, even a family car. We tend to think that grants are like a gift,
but they are not.
The Government has established certain criteria that has to be met,
and I would not advise giving false information as this could land you in a whole load of trouble with the law.
The important thing is to remember to keep your eye on the goal, there are billions of dollars set aside for the general public to use,
and change their lives for the better
Mostly anyone who has a US citizenship is eligible for a government grant, the government do not run checks on people’s credit nor does bankruptcy pose any problems, so the long and short of it is if you are a US citizen or resident you can apply for Government Grant money
There are many Government grant sites out there:
Government Grants do really deliver and have helped countless people, The web however is saturated with umpteen different sites and offers,
each one slightly different focusing on different types of loans as their specialty. All in all there is was way too much information and different options and I ended up getting a little tangled up.
I’m going to make it easy for you, having waded through a lot of these sites and found the major themes, that are prevalent in all of the top sites.
Here are some useful basics for your information to help get you get a handle on the whole government Grant thing.
There are Millions in Government Grants and can you believe it, millions go unclaimed every year, People on the whole think they won’t qualify, and they probably are eligible and would qualify enabling them to benefit from a government grant.
Government grants are available in many different monetary structures mostly ranging from 0 to 0,000, sometimes even higher, the most important thing to remember is that these grants are not a loan which means they do not need paying back! Yes that is correct they do not need to be paid back. I have repeated this to make that clearly understood.
Government Grant agencies unlike banks do not have strict requirements to get you approved. you notify the agency with regards to how much is required, and the money is yours, interest free.
That really seems to be the clincher for me!
Now really is the time to act, There are over 1500 Federal Programs, 25000 State Programs, 20000 Scholarship Programs, and around 30000 Private Foundations available, there is over 50 billion dollars in free government grant money available in 2009 waiting and not forgetting is required by the law to be given away.
There are still billions left which in simple terms is FREE money, While researching these sites one stuck out. TheGovernmentGrantReview.com They clarified the steps to achieving that all important Government grant and more importantly found the best free programs out there that would help you to get them.
