Power3 Medical Products, Inc. (OTCBB:PWRM) reported that four abstracts were accepted for presentation to the annual meeting of the International Congress of Alzheimer’s Disease in Honolulu, Hawaii. The presentations will cover results from protein biomarker discovery, drug response, test development, and ongoing clinical validation trials of the NuroPro AD biomarkers and blood test for Alzheimer’s disease. The four studies to be presented involve a total of 154 Alzheimer’s disease patients and 91 Parkinson’s disease patients, as well as 210 age-matched normal control individuals and 173 disease control individuals.

PWRM is a leader in bio-medical research and the commercialization of biomarkers, tests, and mechanisms of disease. Power3′s patent-pending technologies are being used to develop screening and diagnostic tests for the early detection and prognosis of disease, and to identify protein biomarkers and drug targets, to fulfill critical unmet needs in areas including neurodegenerative disease (NuroPro) and breast cancer (BC-SeraPro).

 

 

Cleveland BioLabs, Inc. (NASDAQ:CBLI) recently reported that the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) exercised the .1 million fourth milestone-based option on the Company’s existing contract under the Broad Agency Announcement titled, Therapies for Hematopoietic Syndrome, Bone Marrow Stromal Cell Loss, and Vascular Injury Resulting from Acute Exposure to Ionizing Radiation, for selected tasks in the advanced development of Protectan CBLB502. The value of the contract, originally awarded in September 2008, is .6 million, including an increase in the first milestone-based option, which was exercised in September 2009.

For Netflix, the agreement is a significant step in building the company’s streaming offer, adding many popular movie titles from some of the world’s leading studios. It adds meaningfully to a growing library of movies and TV shows that can be watched instantly on TVs via a range of leading consumer electronic devices capable of streaming from Netflix and on computers.

For EPIX, the deal reflects the value of the EPIX platform which, from its start, has provided new rights and flexibility for the distribution of its movies. The agreement allows EPIX to continue the distribution of popular content on a variety of platforms and preserve the premium television, subscription on demand and online window reserved for cable, satellite and telco television partners.

NFLX is the world’s largest subscription service streaming movies and TV episodes over the Internet and sending DVDs by mail. For .99 a month, Netflix members can instantly watch unlimited TV episodes and movies streamed to their TVs and computers and can receive unlimited DVDs delivered quickly to their homes. With Netflix, there are never any due dates or late fees. Members can select from a growing library of titles that can be watched instantly and a vast array of titles on DVD. Among the large and expanding base of devices that can stream movies and TV episodes from Netflix are Microsoft’s Xbox 360, Sony’s PS3 and Nintendo’s Wii consoles; Blu-ray disc players from Samsung, LG and Insignia; Internet TVs from LG, Sony and VIZIO; the Roku digital video player and TiVo digital video recorders, and Apple’s iPad tablet.

Momenta Pharmaceuticals Inc. For the second quarter of 2010, the Company reported a net loss of .0 million, compared with a net loss of .8 million for the same period last year. At June 30, 2010, the Company had cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities of .7 million, compared with .7 million at December 31, 2009. Revenue for the second quarter of 2010 was .8 million, compared to .6 million for the same period last year. The decrease in revenue was due to a decrease in reimbursable manufacturing expenses associated with our M356 program and a decrease in reimbursable expenses associated with our enoxaparin sodium injection program as the ANDA review process approached completion. Research and development expenses for the second quarter of 2010 were .8 million, compared to .7 million for the same period last year. The decrease in research and development expenses principally resulted from a decrease in manufacturing, process development and third-party research costs in support of our M356 program and clinical development costs due to the completion of our M118 Phase 2a clinical trial in June 2009.

Power3 Medical Products, Inc. (OTC:PWRM) recently reported that, in collaboration with Lourdes R. Bosquez, MD, it has unexpectedly discovered new and unprecedented findings regarding clinically important differences in the response of the NuroPro protein biomarkers in the blood of untreated Alzheimers disease patients compared to patients treated with the widely used anti-dementia drugs Aricept, Exelon, and Namenda. Another Phase 3 clinical trial enrolled 565 adults in a sleep laboratory setting using a phase-advance, first night assessment model of induced transient insomnia. The results of both tests demonstrated that Silenor achieved statistical significance for objective and subjective measures of sleep onset, including for the primary endpoint of Latency to Persistent Sleep (LPS), and sleep maintenance.

* Revenues of 1.6 million, an increase of 8% as compared to 1.0 million for Q2 2009;
* Operating income from continuing operations of .0 million, an increase of 68% as compared to .9 million for Q2 2009;
* Net income of .6 million, an increase of 43% as compared to .8 million for Q2 2009;
* Adjusted EBITDA of .2 million, an increase of 57% as compared to .6 million for Q2 2009. Adjusted EBITDA is defined as income from continuing operations excluding non cash employee compensation, other income (expense), equity and impairment loss, interest, income (taxes)benefit and depreciation and amortization;
* Fully diluted earnings per share of .40, an increase of 43% as compared to .28 in the second quarter of 2009; and
* Cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities of .9 million at June 30, 2010 with no debt and 0 million available under its credit agreement, as compared to .2 million in cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities at December 31, 2009 with no debt and 0 million available under its credit agreement.

Life Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ:LIFE) and the University of California at San Diego Moores Cancer Center recntly reported a partnership to use SOLID 4 genomic analysis technology in a research program to study chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), a cancer of the white blood cells. The CLL research is made possible by funding from the National Institutes of Health and will enable scientists to survey the whole transcriptomes of 96 CLL tumor samples for potential biomarkers.

CLL is one of four main types of leukemia, which primarily affects adults averaging 70 years old, and causes a slow increase in the number of white blood cells called B cells in the bone marrow. The cancerous cells spread from the marrow to the blood, and can also affect the lymph nodes and other organs, such as the liver and spleen. CLL eventually causes the bone marrow to fail and weakens the immune system.

The value of the contract, originally awarded in September 2008, is .6 million, including an increase in the first milestone-based option, which was exercised in September 2009.
