Eurozone finance ministers have approved the latest tranche of emergency help for the Greek economy.
They are to release about 12bn euros (£10.4bn, $ 17.4bn) in the next two weeks to help Greece meet payments on its huge debts and avoid bankruptcy.
Earlier this week, the Greek parliament passed tough austerity measures demanded by the European Union and International Monetary Fund.
MPs backed the measures despite angry protests on the streets of Athens.
The EU and IMF have already agreed to provide Greece with a total of 110bn euros in emergency loans, with eurozone finance ministers discussing the details of a second bail-out designed to help Greece pay its debts until the end of 2014.
Greek Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos welcomed the eurozone move, saying it “strengthened the country’s international credibility”.
He added: “What is crucial now is the timely and effective implementation of the decisions taken in parliament, so we can gradually emerge from the crisis in the interest of national economy and the Greek citizens.”
‘Breathtaking’
Earlier on Saturday, Polish Finance Minister Jacek Rostowski criticised Europe’s handling of the Greek debt crisis.
He suggested that too much emphasis had been put on austerity measures and not enough on growth.
And he accused opposition parties in some unnamed eurozone countries of showing “breathtaking short-sightedness” in their opposition to support for Greece.
His comments come after Poland took over the six-month presidency of the European Union (EU) on Friday.
Mr Rostowski will now chair meetings of EU finance ministers, and hopes to join talks among eurozone finance ministers – even though Poland has not adopted the euro as its currency.

For all you old school gamers out there, Majesco Games has just announced that it will be releasing Tetris Party Deluxe in a partnership with Tetris online. The game will feature 20 new modes and will be available on both the Nintendo Wii and DS.
Tetris has been one of the most popular games in the world since 1984 when it was invetented by Alexey Pazhitnov in the Soviet Union. The game derives its name from the Greek Numeral tetra, referring to the four blocks in each shape. It never ceases to amaze me how simple designs stand the test of time. Video games are undergoing a cyclical phase where many old games are being re-done or re packaged into arcade style releases by developers. Majesco Games (NASDAQ: COOL) is trading at .80 up .01 or 1% on thin volume. The stock has been acting rather volatile in the last three months and has taken a decent sized dip from .04 to its current position. Despite the volatility, the company has been steadily pumping out new releases on average two times a month since we have initiated coverage. As I have said in my previous articles about companies in the gaming space, summer is the season for developers so we will see how our stocks fair as the solstice approaches. Majesco Entertainment Reports Net Loss of $ .04 (NASDAQ: COOL)
Yesterday at the market close Majesco Entertainment Company (NASDAQ: COOL) reported second quarter 2010 financial results. The company’s net loss for the quarter was .6 million compared to a net loss of .7 million in 2009. Net loss per share was $ .04 compared to a net loss per share of $ .06 in the same period a year ago. Operating expenses declined to .7 million or 36% from a year ago, and Majesco finished the quarter with total cash and cash equivalents of .5 million.

An interactive video game and entertainment products publisher with over 24 years of experience, Majesco Entertainment Company today announced the availability of Greg Hastings Paintball 2 for Wii™ and the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. As an added bonus, each version of the game includes a paintball pass (valued at 0) good for free entry and rental at select paintball fields across the country.
Greg Hastings is like the Tiger Woods of the professional competition paintball scene (who knew there was such a thing), and during his 23 year paintball career, he has competed all over the world and notched many wins with championship teams such as Ground Zero,Bob Long’s Ironmen, XSV and Smoke.
Greg earned two Southwest Asia Campaign Medals for his time spent in the combat zone during the first Gulf War, and also received a medal for being “The best SONAR operator ever inspected.” Since then, Greg has dedicated himself to creating the best-selling paintball video game franchise that bears his name, which turned out to be a perfect fit for Majesco’s developers.
Majesco publishes a wide range of casual and family oriented video games on Wii™, Nintendo DS™ and other leading systems, and product highlights have included Cooking Mama™, TETRIS® Party Deluxe, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel and Jillian Michaels’ Fitness Ultimatum.
The company’s stated business model, interesting enough for the investors out there who still care about fundamental business operations, are to “focus on games with relatively lower development costs for both console and handheld systems targeting mass market consumers”, although Majesco still reported a ($ .04) loss for the second quarter 2010, reported in June, compared to loss of ($ .18) in the same period a year earlier.
Developed by Super X Studios in collaboration with Greg Hastings himself, Greg Hastings Paintball 2 is rated E10+ and is available now for the suggested retail price of .99. The game will also be available on PlayStation®Network in early 2011, and you can view a trailer and find out more about the game by clicking here.
New features in the game release include more than 10 single and multiplayer game modes and 62 all-new paintball fields based on actual locations around the world. The game also features three new event branches—Tournament Speedball, Recball, and Tournament Woodsball—and cutting edge gear and guns, including paint grenades and rocket launchers.
Players can even become general manager of their own 10-player team composed of professional and amateur paintball players. Gamers can trade players, issue commands and use their earnings from the field to build each player’s individual stats, so the overall team is that much more competitive. The better the team assembled, the more tournaments a player stands to win, providing him or her with added cash to buy new gear, players and skill upgrades.
Shares of Majesco are currently trading up $ .03, or about 4.5% at $ .69 a share on light volume.
