During my work today , I found a newEnergy saving website ,and took a look at it. It was quite interesting in the fact that it showed me how to re-configure and improve my power usage of home appliances and potentially reduce my home power bill by $150 per year. $150 a year might not seem like alot to people, but if you could save $150 on your home energy costs over a 10 year period , that’s enough to pay for a vacation.

Never the less, I’m quite impressed that out of all companies, Microsoft is trying to improve home efficiency , which I think is a great thing, as it helps save the environment. I’m thankful that Microsoft is doing this , unlike google who has really been lagging behind microsoft in terms of advancements to their systems.

Just some of the tips I found useful on the site were :

Adjust the temperature by 5 to 15 degrees Fahrenheit before you leave or go to sleep
When replacing your central air conditioner, choose an Energy Star-labeled model with a SEER equal to 14
When replacing your central air conditioner, choose a high-efficiency model with a SEER equal to 15
When replacing your central air conditioner, choose a high-efficiency model with a SEER equal to 16
When replacing your central air conditioner, choose a premium-efficiency model with a SEER equal to 17
When replacing your gas boiler, choose an Energy Star-labeled model with a AFUE equal to 85 percent
When replacing your gas boiler, choose a high-efficiency model with a AFUE equal to 87 percent
When replacing your gas boiler, choose a premium-efficiency model with a AFUE equal to 91 percent
When replacing your gas boiler, choose a premium-efficiency model with a AFUE equal to 94 percent
When replacing your gas furnace, choose an Energy Star-labeled model with an AFUE equal to 90 percent
Insulate the floor above unconditioned space to at least R-38
Insulate your water heater with a jacket
Wear cooler clothes during warmer weather, and turn the thermostat up to 78 degrees Fahrenheit or more
Cool your home with natural ventilation by opening windows at night
When replacing your central air conditioner or electric baseboard heater, consider replacing both with an Energy Star-labeled electric heat pump with a SEER of 14 and a HSPF equal to 8.2
When replacing your central air conditioner or electric baseboard heater, consider replacing both with a high-efficiency electric heat pump with a SEER of 15 and a HSPF equal to 8.5
When replacing your central air conditioner or electric baseboard heater, consider replacing both with a high-efficiency electric heat pump with a SEER of 16 and a HSPF equal to 8.6
When replacing your central air conditioner or electric baseboard heater, consider replacing both with a premium-efficiency electric heat pump with a SEER of 17 and a HSPF equal to 8.7
When replacing your central air conditioner or electric furnace, consider replacing both with an Energy Star-labeled electric heat pump with a SEER of 14 and a HSPF equal to 8.2
When replacing your central air conditioner or electric furnace, consider replacing both with a high-efficiency electric heat pump with a SEER of 15 and a HSPF equal to 8.5

All in all , I thought these tips were GREAT!
