Today, THQI announced the development of its Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy games in the first installment of a multi-year licensing agreement with Sony Pictures Consumer Products Inc.
Wheel of Fortune is the longest running game show in American Television History. Created by Merv Griffin, and beginning in September 19, 1983 the show has had great long term success, airing its 27th season this past September. Jeopardy, also created by Merv Griffin began in 1964, going on and off the air intermittently until 1984 where the show was hosted by Alex Trebek and has been running strong since. Jeopardy has also been internationally adapted since then.
Both games will be available for the Wii and the Nintendo DS in the fall. The Wii version of this game will utilize the Wii speak, a new feature for enhanced video game experience. Releases for the Wii continue to do well in the gaming market. Simple, party games such as this, are usually solid hits for the Wii platform due to their inclusive nature where gamers no longer play by themselves but with family and friends.
THQI is wise to strike this agreement with Sony, developing two games that have a special place in the heart of Americans, not to mention the stimulating trivia and brand new game play features.
As E3 approaches gaming companies are constantly announcing new releases and adjusting line-ups in preparation for the fabled gaming event taking place on June 15th through the 17th. Currently THQI is trading at 5.24 up .06 or 1.16 on 12k of volume this morning.
